Competitions:

feel like you've got potential but lack the equipment and tools needed to take you to the top? well prove it! here are a few competitions that we know about and that YOU might be interested in. Win some money and buy more art supplies

(MOFA) Photography Competition

The Saudi Ministry Of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced a photography competition for saudi citizens to participate in any or all of the following categories:

Heritage: Historical Buildings, Museums, artifacts, etc.
Tourism: The Holy Mosques, Resorts, Touristic hotspots, etc.
Portrait: 'nuff said
Nature: Desert, Parks, etc.

Prizes:

1st prize: 30,000 S.R. for each category.
2nd prize: 20,000 S.R. for each category.
3rd prize: 10,000 S.R. for each category.
4th prize: 8,000 S.R. for each category.
5th prize: 5,000 S.R. for each category.
Judges prize: 4,000 S.R. for each category.

it is possible to win in each category (e.g. winning 1st prize in all four categories = 120,000 S.R.)

deadlines:

Due date: Wednesday 5/6/2008
Judgement day (haha): Thursday 19/6/2008
Final Decision and Prize announcement: Saturday 21/6/2008
Mens Exhibition: Tuesday & Wednesday 24-25/6/2008
Women's Exhibition: 26/6/2008 (invitation only)

Rahalah Competition:

Rahala is organizing an exhibition (for more information on the exhibition scroll down) and a photography competition* which should reflect the mid-region in Saudi Arabia (Najd) in a modern way.

Category: Najd Heritage in a modern view.

Prizes (Bandr Al-Jibreen Prize):

1st Prize: 75,000 S.R.
2nd Prize: 50,000 S.R.
3rd Prize: 25,000 S.R.

Other Competitors will have their work evaluated and might receive a certificate.

*Photographers participating in the competition must also participate in the exhibition (booth rental)

Here are a few Exhibitions you may want to participate in or atleast attend to see how far fellow artists have gone.

Rahalah Exhibition:

The Rahala exhibition is supposed to reflect saudi culture. This years theme concentrates on the country's mid-region (Najd). The exhibition space is approximately 6,000 Square Meters which will have room for approx. 150 booths for participants. Each booth is 3x4 Meters and Artists in various fields are welcome to participate. Categories include:

- Fashion Design
- Interior Design
- Jewelry Design
- Graphic Design (Digital Art)
- Botanical (flower) Design*
- Culinary Arts*
- Arabic Calligraphy
- Literature (Poetry, Fiction, Non-ficition, etc)
- Creative Writing
- Oriental Perfume Designers*
- Cosmetic and makeup artists
- Hair Stylists
- Fine Art (Painting, drawing, etc)
- Hand Crafts
- Photography
- Filming
- Animation

Location: Al-Harthy Jeddah Exhibition Center. Near the Hira'a/Madinah Intersection.

Deadline: 25/05/2008

Fee: 5,000 S.R. per 3x4 booth

Fusion event:

unfortunately i haven't received much details regarding this event but i do know that it will be charity/community service oriented. one of the organizers for this event also organized the serafi megamall waterman exhibition which some of you may or may not have participated in. will update you with more info as soon as possible

Community:

~clareeish launched saudi arabia's first official design magazine D round of applause everyone! it should be distributed in all college's around jeddah and a few famous outlets. note us or her for more info

*BahiMashat won an award in "Al Mahabba Awards" in the UAE! The purpose of that competition is to promote the love of the prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him. Congratulations Bahi!
